Gerard Rego Delivers Keynote “The GDP Going Mobile – 2.0 of the Industry” on the second day of Great Indian Developer Summit 2012
Bangalore, April 18, 2012: The second day of the country’s biggest ever annual summit for the IT developer ecosystem “The Great Indian Developers Summit” organized by Saltmarch Media witnessed the announcement of the much awaited Great Indian Developer Awards 2012 at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. In its fifth year running, the Great Indian Developer Awards recognize the product and innovation excellence of hundreds of software products and tools that aid developer productivity, across 11 different categories. The selection criteria applied by an international stature panel places emphasis on functionality, usability, innovation excellence, bleeding-edge quotient, and feedback from the developer ecosystem.
The key highlight of day two of GIDS 2012 also included the keynote address on “GDP Going Mobile – 2.0 of the Industry” by Gerard Rego, Head of Ecosystem & Developer Experience at Nokia, India. Addressing the audience, he said, “India like many countries such as BRIC skipped the mainframe, PC and internet revolution and went directly to the mobile! The role of mobile and telecommunications has a direct impact of GDP growth as research indicates. The 1.0 of the mobile industry was unbundling of products and services via marketplaces. The 2.0 will see for countries such as BRIC where fragmentation and micro-scale of demand and supply chains from kirana (mom & pop) stores, agriculture and healthcare to governance, big business and to education going mobile.”
The other interesting highlight of day two was the talk by Alan Wong, Reasearch In Motion’s Developer Relations Lead. He spoke on creating killer mobile apps using web technologies. He spoke about how to transform existing web assets into a standalone rich application that can maintain the look and feel, and functionality of a native mobile application, yet easily support smartphones, tablets and beyond.
